New House

There was construction going on at my house Friday night
Check out the "hot" construction worker
cut out a door
 add a couple windows
and "POOF"  you have a box house
you would be amazed all the "things" you can put in a box house
Little Miss had fun all weekend and this week playing in her house

I have great memories making and playing in houses made of boxes
My dad had a hardware store - he would bring home washer/dryer/refrigerator boxes
they would be scattered all over our deck
we would also drag all types of things into our houses

I have enjoyed reliving experiences/memories I experienced as a child
it is good to go back to those days
I know now,  how spoiled we were with the neighbors we had and all the fun we had

I am glad my daughter also able to have some of these wonderful experiences in her childhood

Graduation

Kassade graduated in May from Maize South High School
YEA!
We had a small family party for her at the house
Just a few of the decorations - surprised her with one of her favorites
- Emperor's Grill - for lunch
Making the bunting was my favorite
I did it in colors that she would like and possibly want to use later
the dinning room looked "naked" when it took it down
 Family picture
 Russ and Kassade after graduation
I didn't get any pictures during the ceremony
(had my old camera and the zoom doesn't focus anymore)
Such cute girls!

We are very proud of Kassade and all that she has accomplished
It is hard to believe that she is now off to college
I know she will enjoy being on her own but yet not too far from us
Hope to see you around more
Come August I better start keeping the fridge full

Riverfest

At the Riverfest, the Wichita Children's Theater presented
"Chicken Little"
We thought London might enjoy this play
Kassade and Kerry also decided to join us
London was full of questions about the play - she wasn't sure what to expect

I didn't get too many pictures because
my camera battery was low (how could this be??)
It was cute and kept London's attention
They had some singing and dancing and cute costumes
London normally doesn't like people dressed up in costumes
She surprised us by running up to Lucy Goosey and Henny Penny
giving them hugs and wanting her picture taken
these two also wanted to get into the action
Braving the heat and wind we took off  to find some good food
Which wasn't too hard - we had more than we could eat
 London's new friend
(so sad they aren't in focus - darn that new camera)
Neat fountain at the Hyatt - someone just had to get their feet in it
Kassade did join London in the fountain but my camera battery died
So I missed some good pictures of them together
It was a good evening - pretty laid back - no drama
It was really nice to spend some with Kassade and Kerry
Glad they joined us

Weekend at Grandma Brown's House

We went to Russ' mother's house this weekend in Garnett
It was a good weekend with many little activities
Russ and London having a little fun with water
I was talking with Sherrie out on the porch
We heard a big "SPLASH"
London came running over to us - wanting us to watch her
this is what we saw . . .
"Again Daddy"

Racing

Garnett's North Lake has been used as a road race for Grand Prix.  Today they use it for shifter-kart racing.  This weekend they were hosting a race.   Russ went out watch and snapped a few pictures.  We were told that on the straight away, some of the cars can get up to 130 mph.

Some history:  The first event was sanctioned by the Kansas City Region SCCA in 1958, and the Lake Garnett Grand Prix became a fixture on the road race circuit in the early '60s, bringing a number of well-known drivers of the era. Perhaps surprisingly, in view of its remote, rural location, the races attracted numerous spectators (up to 50,000) to the small community. Difficulties of crowd control (the spectators rioted in 1963) and increasing safety concerns (the narrowness of the track, particularly over the dam, and the proximity to the lake) led to its demise as a sports car track in 1972.

Fried Chicken

Russ' mom told him next time he came to Garnett she would make him a Birthday meal
He wanted her wonderful fried chicken and all the trimmings to go with it

Russ learned how to cut up a chicken
Mmmmmm  good ole fried chicken
It was a great meal - Jay and Barb joined us
As you can tell - Russ is the favorite child (at least he thinks so)
