Easter 2011

On Friday at daycare London had an egg hunt
This is the "last minute" (Thursday night) Easter shirt I decided she needed
The bunny is white fur and she picked the material for the bow
This is London's Easter Bonnet that she made at daycare
They wore them when they went to visit the grandmas/grandpas
Coloring eggs
On Saturday we went to grandma Kathy and papa Chuck's house
We had the annual egg hunt and then lunch
Grandma Kathy always gives them a stuffed bunny
this year she let the kids pick out which one they wanted
of course London had to have the purple one

Checking out her loot in all the eggs
Riley, Russ and London
London's Easter dress
This year I asked what type of dress she wanted
"I want a twirly dress"
Aren't those curls the cutest thing you every saw!
As put by London - "I am bewtful mom!"
Very much a "twirly" dress
It was fun making it - much more simpler than last year's dress
This one is my favorite
Finally got a natural smile
Her Easter Basket
She has been asking for this giraffe for about 7/8 months
Every time we go to the zoo, she has to check and see if it is still there
Uncle John and Aunt Shanna got her a pillow pet
(one more thing checked off her "I want" list)
Hunting eggs one last time
It was a great Easter weekend
Very busy, worth all the work and a lot of fun
Enjoyed our time with family

Our Holy Week

Our Holy Week has been interesting this year.  Especially with a 3 yr old and trying to teach her about the true reason we celebrate Easter and the fun side of it.

On Monday night when it was bedtime I told her to pick out 2 books.  She pulled out one and asked "what is this one about?"  I told her it was called "God, Keeps His Promises".  It was one I was given as a child from my home church. I told her it was stories about God and Jesus.   She told me that she wanted to read about Mary.  I questioned her a little more and she said, "I want to read about when Mary went looking for Jesus and he was put in the cave".

I realized she was talking about the Easter story.  I asked her to tell me about this story.   It went something like this. . . "there were these bad men and they put Jesus on the cross, put nails on his hand, and put things on his head and it hurt him.  He died.  The soldiers took him and put him in a cave.  They  wrapped his body and put a big stone in front of the cave.  Mary went looking and looking for him but she couldn't find him, he wasn't anywhere.  Jesus was alive and now he is in Heaven."

I asked her where she talked about this and she said  "at daycare, Ms. Gina told us about Jesus and him dying."

This touched my heart so much that she was so interested in this story and kept asking questions about Jesus and why he died.  This has been our topic every night this week at bedtime.  We have been reading the story out of my book each night.

Tonight when I was putting her to bed.  I asked her what song did she want to sing.  She wanted to sing the song about Jesus on the cross.  I told her that I didn't know that one.  London said that she knew that song and started singing about Jesus dying on the cross.  I think part of it was made up,  but was precious.

Once again she started telling the story about Jesus dying.  I explained about Easter and how that Jesus came back to life and that is what we are celebrating tomorrow at church.  Then our conversation went like this . . .

London: "Will we see Jesus tomorrow?"
Me:  "No, but because we love Jesus and he is in our hearts when we die we will see him."
(London sat up in bed and was all animated  - reaching out to hug stating . . . . )
London:   "When I die on a cross, I will see Jesus and he will give me a hug and say - YEAH!  London is here!!" (then clapped her hands)

How do you respond to that as a mother - other than having tears in your eyes.  At 3 years she is learning, starting to understand, and getting it on a very simple child level.

It has been a while since I have really thought about Easter and all it means.   Talking about it each night this week with London and her questions has really opened my eyes and made me look at it in a new light.  I am so thankful that she wants to learn more, thankful for a strong Christian husband, family, church, friends and daycare teacher who help guide and teach her about the love of Jesus.

I hope you all have a Blessed Easter tomorrow!

Prom 2011

Kassade had her Senior Prom last weekend
We were able to catch up with her for a moment to snap a few pictures
Kassade and Kerry
They have been together for 5 months (I think)
but have dated off and on several times over the last couple years

I had to get a close up of her shoes
She said she wanted to be "comfortable" dancing this year

Tigers vs Leopards

When I was teaching London about the difference between Lions and Tigers
I told her Tigers had stripes and Lions did not

Last night we were reading through an animal book
I was asking her what the different animals were

I asked her what this animal was . . .
She said "a tiger, it has stripes"

Then I asked what this animal was . . .
she paused and said "a cat"
I told her that we call this cat a leopard and it has
"POLKA DOTS"
she shouted out

Gotta love them

A Night Out

Several weeks ago Russ and I had the opportunity to go out - alone -
On what most people call a date
We went here for dinner.
It had been a long time and after we got our food, I looked at Russ and said
"why have we waited so long to come back?"
We split the King's Platter
it isn't on the menu but next time you go you need to ask about it
The perfect place for a pregnant woman to eat - I was so stuffed
Since we were able to enjoy a long leisurely meal with no interruptions
It was too late to catch a movie or shop
I needed to walk - so we went to the bookstore
After looking around we plopped down in some comfortable chairs
and started to look at baby girl names
This can become very overwhelming and then you get side tracked
and start looking up your name and others to see what they mean etc
I got even more side tracked when I looked up and saw this book
just starring at me
I jumped up and got it!

Everything sounded wonderful

I bought the book but where do you start?

Swirled & Sprinkled
Dipped and Glazed
Simple and Sweet
Filled and Layered
Piped and Topped

Cookie Cupcakes - Chocolate Chip/Peanut Butter/Oatmeal Raisin
Martha's Meyer Lemon
Boston Cream Pie

Buttercream Blossom
Just to name a few

I haven't made any of them yet
Still trying to decide
but next week . . . one of them will grace my home
