Racing

Garnett's North Lake has been used as a road race for Grand Prix.  Today they use it for shifter-kart racing.  This weekend they were hosting a race.   Russ went out watch and snapped a few pictures.  We were told that on the straight away, some of the cars can get up to 130 mph.

Some history:  The first event was sanctioned by the Kansas City Region SCCA in 1958, and the Lake Garnett Grand Prix became a fixture on the road race circuit in the early '60s, bringing a number of well-known drivers of the era. Perhaps surprisingly, in view of its remote, rural location, the races attracted numerous spectators (up to 50,000) to the small community. Difficulties of crowd control (the spectators rioted in 1963) and increasing safety concerns (the narrowness of the track, particularly over the dam, and the proximity to the lake) led to its demise as a sports car track in 1972.

Fried Chicken

Russ' mom told him next time he came to Garnett she would make him a Birthday meal
He wanted her wonderful fried chicken and all the trimmings to go with it

Russ learned how to cut up a chicken
Mmmmmm  good ole fried chicken
It was a great meal - Jay and Barb joined us
As you can tell - Russ is the favorite child (at least he thinks so)
We finally got to meet a new cousin, Koralynn
such a little cutey - she was born in January
I think London will be a great as a big sister
Remembered to get a picture with Grandma Brown before we left
It was a good weekend,  good to see family again

Stuff

I got these PJ's for London at the Hesston Barn Sale
She LOVES them - they were made by Vintage Girl
She makes them out of old vintage bed sheets - they are so soft
I wanted a pair but she doesn't make them in adult sizes
I guess I will hit the thrift stores to look for some old sheets
Maybe some with flowers, birds, gold/pink or green
Or if you have any you would like to get rid of - just send them to me
I would love to have a pair of PJ's like these
This is the first picture I took with my new camera
The ones to follow are just random things I took the first couple days
Truman is 16 yrs old this month - Happy Birthday
When he dies - I am going to stuff him
That way I won't miss him so much
Miss London's new swimsuit
She didn't need it but it was too cute to pass up

Spring Flowers

My flower beds are up and looking beautiful
I just love having perennial beds that are established
I can't wait for them to start blooming
Here are just a few that have already started this spring
I enjoy gardening
but I am taking it easy this summer
I am proud of myself for only planting a few pots and maintaining my perennials
Next summer will be a different story
not being pregnant, having the backyard to landscape and develop

Splish Splash

Last night we decided to drive by the sprinkler park to see if it was open
Mommy said, we can't stay long, it's almost bedtime
Daddy said, you can get your feet wet
London said, but I don't have my swimsuit

Ohhh it was so tempting . . . .
Nothing is more fun than running in sprinklers on hot summer days
Brought back a lot of childhood memories and feelings
Even Russ couldn't resist getting his feet wet
45 minutes later we were on our way home
A very happy little girl
and I had fun testing out my new camera - it is going to be a fun summer!
