Summer Projects

Just a few of the projects I have been working on this summer
This is a pattern I got from Moda Bake Shop
A great place to get ideas and free patterns for quilts and many other projects
The top is done and I will send this one out to be machine quilted
I would like to have some different designs done on it
probably use this one for Kennedy
It was fun to do and went together pretty quick
you do have to pay attention to your points when you put your blocks together
These little triangles around the edge are called Prairie Points
VERY time consuming!!!
but I think they make the quilt
This one took more time to cut out than it did to sew together
I love the Mayfly Bug ABC fabric - I had to "fussy" cut each letter out
tricky since they were not lined up in rows
I just need to get the backing and put it together - bind it in the red print
I will tie this one - it is for Kennedy
aren't these little guys just adorable?
This one is for my mother-in-law, Sherrie
She celebrated her 70th birthday this weekend
we were trying to decide something from grandkids
I came up with this idea for a quilt/wall hanging

The kids each picked out their own material for their hand
we traced them and then I used heat bond and appliqued to the quilt
I also did a row of stitching around each hand called "echoing"
I have never done needle point but thought their names turned out pretty well
It was a really fun project to do
This is some new fabric I got in the mail last week
It is my new project for London
she has been asking for a new blanket
I have a great pattern that I have been wanting to do for her
This is the new Bohemian Festival line from Lila Tueller
The yellow and pink on the far left is something for me
not sure what I am going to do with it but I will find something
Busy sewing - something I do enjoy
what else can you do in Kansas
when you leave for work at 7:20 and it 82 degrees out and you come home it is 100+
you go to bed at 10 PM and it is still 95 degrees - this is how it is for days on end

Window

This is a common scene each morning while I am getting ready
I often wonder what these two are thinking
what is so intriguing outside in the neighbors yard
I think they are talking about the girl next door
Phoebe - she is the new girl that moved in last summer
she is awfully cute and friendly
are they hoping to get a glimpse of her each morning

what is this?

it was a strange thing
last Saturday I was out picking a few things for Kennedy's birthday
bright sunny hot Kansas day with a few white fluffy clouds
I was home a few minutes and heard ?? a loud clap of thunder??
could it be - or was it just a train
then showers - what?
it was raining - real rain - for about 30 minutes
London and I went out to find a rainbow since the sun was still shinning
what a beautiful summer shower
it felt so good to stand out in the rain
refreshing (even though it was still in the high 90's)
we had to play in it and enjoy it

one

I can't believe our little baby is ONE!
time for a party
we kept it fairly simple and just had family over for dinner and cake
polk-a-dots was the theme
found these balloons at Party City
we also hung pink/green/blue paper lanterns from the ceiling
and I made a table cloth to match
I found her shirt on Etsy and made the skirt (same material as the table cloth)
I've got enough left over to make something for London
I didn't take many First Birthday photos
she has been teething and had a runny nose - I don't want a red nose in pictures
I thought I would take some later this week when she is feeling better
very intrigued with the balloons
I hear people coming
after some instruction from London
she got the hang of opening gifts
a lot of activity going on while getting the cake ready
I realized afterwards  -  all the pictures I took I had the cake in focus but not Kennedy
I guess my ADD was kicking in and I wasn't paying enough attention
(so much for learning about depth of field)
two helpers to blow out the candle
Russ wanted to let her dig into part of the cake
she really wasn't sure what to do at first
when she licked her fingers - she wasn't too impressed with the frosting
I think she had more fun just playing with it
It has been a great year with this little one
so glad God knew what our family needed to make it more complete
you have been such a blessing to us
thank you for all the joy you bring us each day

We love you more each day!

Happy First Birthday Kennedy

Dead? or Alive?

We have been having some very hot weather in Kansas
100 + for days at a time
it is really hard to keep flower pots and beds looking nice
watering twice a day is very common

a few of those who have not made it thus far . . .
those who have made it - my front flower beds are actually looking really good
it has been a learning process taking pictures of flowers
right time of day to get the best color and to take on a day it isn't windy
for Amy J who loves daisies and is moving away this week
our first official cucumber - who else has a cucumber plant in their front flower bed?
my window boxes look great this year
I don't think they have ever looked so nice
Can't tell you what I did different this year compared to others
this probably my sweetest little flower

How are your flowers doing?
We will have to check back in one month to see how they are doing
not sure if there will be more on the dead or alive list
